SANTA ROSA — October 26, 2026. Families planning fall outings at Howarth Park should note an important distinction in today’s seasonal calendar: the park’s rides and attractions are closed for winter beginning Monday, October 26, but its trails, playgrounds and fishing areas remain open seven days a week from sunrise to sunset.

What stops operating?

Santa Rosa Recreation and Parks lists its train, carousel, pony rides and other seasonal attractions as closed for winter from October 26, 2026 through March 5, 2027. The park’s boathouse ended its operating season September 27, and the animal barn was a summer-only attraction. Visitors should not mistake the winter rides shutdown for a complete park closure.

What visitors may still enjoy

The city says walking trails, playgrounds and fishing continue year-round during daylight hours, subject to normal safety or maintenance notices. Howarth Park is at 630 Summerfield Road, Santa Rosa, CA 95405. City parking is free, with additional legal spaces on Summerfield Road when the lot is full.

Other seasonal changes

The city’s posted visitor information says the park snack bar is closed under citywide budget-related savings at Recreation and Parks facilities. Families should plan accordingly, bring water and check picnic reservation requirements for organized gatherings. Weather may affect trails and other park uses even when the main grounds are generally open.
